Never ever give away how a trick was accomplished. Just because you don't do it in your act, does not mean that a magician that does perform it wants the secret given away. Put yourself in their shoes before revealing any secrets!

Get to know other magicians. Not only will you find you will earn a great deal from them, but they can be helpful in booking gigs. If, for example, they are asked to do a show and they are already booked, if you have a good relationship with them then they can recommend you to the person doing the booking.

Do whatever it takes to be the best magician possible. If you need to, take a public speaking class, acting class, or stagecraft course. All of these will help to make your show even better.

Take a deep breath before dealing with doubters. Some people like to heckle a performer just to get them to mess up. Don't let this happen by continuing on with the show and ignoring them, or by asking them to come on stage to do a trick that will stun them into silence.

Remember, a great show is one in which the audience is kept on the edge of their seat - never knowing what is going to happen next. As well as one in which they leave going "how did they do that?!"

Be careful of performing where someone can record you. If a video is made, then it can be watched over and over until the trick is figured out. Make sure as your learning the trick, you are covered from every angle so no one angle will give anything away.

Volunteer your time. Nothing is more rewarding then going to a children's hospital and showing off tricks to kids. The smiles you receive, as well as the knowledge that for a short while you made them forget they are sick, is far better then any payment.

Have your act down pat, so that you're not constantly watching the clock, but don't be afraid to embrace a spontaneous moment as it is happening. Sometimes these moments are the ones that the audience remembers more then the rest of your act - so make the best of them.

Always change up your act so that it is never the same. Once you have fans that are going to see you multiple times, you don’t want to disappoint them by doing the same act over and over.

There are two important words/phrases in magic – slight of hand and misdirection. Slight of hand is the performing of the trick, and misdirection if the controlling of those who are watching the trick. Mastering both of these is essential to being a good magician.
