Ice Hockey Tips

When passing the puck to your teammates – pass it so that it goes around your opponent and not through the middle of them.

If the puck has landed against the board, or is loose on the ice, get to it as quickly as you can so that you can gain control of it and decide what your next move is going to be.

When purchasing your first ice hockey stick, go to a specialty shop so that they can help you get the right stick. You don’t want to buy a stick with out advice because you might get one that is too short or too long.

Never play ice hockey with out protective gear on. All protective gear should be worn when out on the ice so that you lesson the chance of getting hurt.

Buying skates for ice hockey is very important. You want skates that fit properly and are not too tight or cramp your toes. They should also provide adequate support to your ankles.

A good way to practice, if you are not able to practice on ice, is to practice with in-line skates playing street hockey.

While playing, your stick should be on the ice at all times. Not only is it safer for you and the others on the ice, it allows you to be ready to receive the puck at a moments notice.

Take some time to watch the professionals play the game. Watch how they handle the puck and the rest of their moves. Then when you get out on the ice, you can take what you have learned by watching and put it into play.

When traveling with the puck, don't keep it too close to your body. This will make you constantly look down instead of looking forward.

When handling the puck, try to keep it in the center of the blade of your stick. This gives you maximum control when you have the hockey puck in your possession.

Remember to keep your lower hand in the middle of your stick. This will allow you to be able to shoot and pass with the most force.
