Coupon Tips

Coupons can be found everywhere if you know where to look. You can find them online on coupon sites, in the Sunday paper, magazines, as well as in flyers sent to you by the store itself. You can also contact the manufacturer of the products you use the most to see if they will send you coupons.

Take advantage of days where stores will double the value of a coupon. This means that instead of saving just 50 cent you are now saving a dollar. However you should also be aware that there are some coupons that state on them not to be doubled.

Share your coupons. Get together with your church or a group of friends and pool together all of your coupons. More then likely they will have a coupon for a product that you use and they do not, and you will have one that they can use but you will not.

Make sure you read your coupons carefully. There is always fine print on them stating a specific size or quantity or flavor that the coupon is to be used for.

Watch the expiration dates! If you have two coupons for the same thing, use the one that is going to expire first. You can use the other one at a later date.

There are coupons out there for more then just food items in the grocery store. There are coupons available for electronics, dining out, movies and so much more. Don’t forget to take advantage of these as well.

Keep your coupons organized in a file folder at home. This will help you when you are planning your grocery shopping list. If you have your coupons sorted by sections such as “frozen”, “dairy” and “canned” then you will know where to find them when you are looking for them.

Don’t cheat when using coupons. Don’t try to use one for something that you did not actually purchase, and don’t use one that is past its expiration date.

Most stores will allow you to use both a store coupon (or sale price) with a manufacturers coupon. Of course if you are not sure it does not hurt to ask.

Pay attention at checkout when using coupons (and when your not) to make sure that your coupons are in fact being scanned. Sometimes the scan does not work the way that it should and you are not saving the money. When you are done, check your receipt – before leaving the store – to make sure everything looks right. Have a list of the coupons that you used and the amounts on the coupons so that you have an idea of what you will be saving before going to the store.

If, when you get to a grocery store – or other store- and the item that you have the coupon for is not in stock, as about a rain check on the product. This way when the store gets more in, you will be paying for it with the sale price.

When you get to the check out line, have your coupons in a neat pile facing the same direction to hand to the cashier. This will make their job a little easier and faster when it comes time to scan them.

Believe it or not, coupons can be printed from your very computer! Coupon sites often feature the same offers found in your local Sunday newspaper. These are nationally validated by manufacturers and may be redeemed at most locations where the product is offered. Bookmark these pages and quickly browse featured coupons before heading off to the grocery store. The savings are sure to add up!
